Crypto exchange BTC Markets has published a large number of email addresses and names of its users.
The crypto traders of Australia’s largest crypto exchange were in shock yesterday after BTC Markets sent out promotional emails where they inadvertently published the names and emails of users. The company was sending emails systemically and in batches for 1000 users where the recipient could see another 999 users, informs Finance Magnates.
BTC Markets apologized for this situation and on the social network stated:
The platform remains secure and unaffected by the recent email issue. Our external communication process has no interaction with our internal system and no password data was exposed,
As good practice, to protect your BTC Markets account, we strongly advise all our clients to enable Two Factor Authentication (2FA).
According to current statistics, the Australian crypto exchange has more than 270,000 users.
The crypto exchange identified an external service as the culprit, which they used for several years to send emails in bulk. As part of data security, the exchange also reported the incident to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
